My art is a journey, one that I develope through my unique experiences and feminine perspectives. I use oil paint and photography to explore themes around memory, identity and connection by layering landscapes, symbols and portraits on wood panels and paper surfaces. I observe the world around me - its shapes, colours, edges, and contours - in pursuit of a better understanding. This curiosity drives my creations, craving the uncovering of authentic stories and experiences.
I create compositions that position portraits within personal landscapes, employing bold colours, blended brush strokes, shapes, and floral elements. The landscapes evoke a sense of rootedness, while the portraits are a reflection in times of disconnection from the self. Incorporating the textures of the surface, allows them to seamlessly integrate and influence my creative narratives. I reveal the wood surface creating a connection to childhood foundations. In other compositions, the surface texture informs the environment, all while drawing together memories.
The incorporation of shapes and florals within my pieces serves as a deliberate reflection. Each one carries symbolic weight, facets of my connections and memories, finding the rules that make a shape and the organic flow of the florals are a poetic visual of a woman searching. Furthermore, instinct has a pivotal role throughout my creative journey. From the initial conception of a painting to its final brushstroke, my intuitive sense guides the paintings evolution. This innate understanding informs decisions of colour, brush work, and the placement of elements, navigating authentic themes.
I am creating visual tension when layering portraits against landscapes, contrasting moments of uncertainty with environments of awareness that captivate the viewer's imagination, all while the questions I pose remain unanswered. This contrast allows exploration of the interplay between the individual and the environment. In this, light is shed on the relationship between identity, connection and surroundings.
My art is the story of a woman searching, observing and reconciling the different parts of herself.
